LAMBETH CONFERENCE 1998 |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
At the Lambeth Conference of 1998, lesbian and gay sexuality was placed on the agenda of the section entitled ‘Called to Full Humanity’. Members of Changing Attitude were invited to make a presentation to the subsection chaired by Bishop Duncan Buchanan of Johannesburg. At their first session, the subsection declined to receive the presentation from Changing Attitude. The subsection produced a valuable report after three weeks of challenging work. The subsection was asked, against its will, to formulate a resolution to present to the plenary session. This was repeatedly amended during a notoriously heated and unpleasant debate. The final resolution (Resolution 1.10) attempted, and failed, to balance affirmation of lesbian and gay people with a restatement of what is presented as traditional church teaching. The full text of Resolution 1.10 is available on the Lambeth Conference website. Additional information
